Pak does not want Taliban to seize Afghan control
Pakistan does not want the Taliban to seize control of Afghanistan when international forces pull out, according to a leaked account of a meeting with the recently retired head of its intelligence service. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency has long been accused of siding with the Taliban as part of a strategy to ensure a friendly government in Kabul and to ensure arch-rival India cannot gain a foothold.
Bagram prison: The ‘other Guantanamo’
Two Canadians are known to have been held at Bagram. Toronto-born Omar Khadr was there for about four months before he was taken to the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba. Another case, which recently emerged from U.S. diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks, was that of a mentally ill Canadian-Egyptian man, Khaled Samy Abdallah Ismail, held at Bagram for more than 18 months.

The Afghan leader has been defying US pressure to sack an allegedly corrupt minister for over a year, according to some of the latest diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks, the whistleblower website. Secret diplomatic records showed Ismail Khan - privately termed "the worst" by US officials - kept his job at an agency that controls $2bn in international projects.
