All republican candidates for president claimed they would all walk away from a hypothetical deficit-reduction deal that was as extreme as 10 parts spending cuts to one part tax increases. That should tell every voter in America everything about this current crop of Know-Nothings - no person who would take such a stance is fit to be president of the United States or any developed country.
The attack on the Republican establishment by the tea party folks grabs the gaze like a really bad horror flick some version of Hee Haw meets 28 Days Later. It s fascinating. But it also raises a serious question: Are these the desperate thrashings of a dying movement or the labor pains of a new one?
