Climate change is an emergency. I'm running for president because we need an administration that treats climate change as the existential threat to our country and the entire planet it is. We will pass a Green New Deal.
This is America’s ugly two-tier criminal justice system: If you are a billionaire like Jeffrey Epstein charged with sex trafficking, you get off with virtually no punishment. If you are a person of color or working class person, the justice system is built to work against you.
The abuse of a child is one of the most heinous, despicable abuses of power imaginable. It is inexcusably poor judgment for a US Attorney to seek leniency for someone guilty of it. Secretary Acosta should provide his resignation immediately.
We can’t tear down the ACA. We should protect and build on it. In America, health care should be a right—not a privilege. As president, I’ll do everything in my power to stand up to the attacks on the ACA and expand coverage to ensure everyone has access to the care they need.
Secretary Acosta must resign. He actively worked to cover up and protect a serial sexual predator in the face of countless survivors. Donald Trump knew this when he hired him. Congress must investigate and take appropriate action.
The Trump administration is actively working to undermine our health care system and jeopardize the coverage of 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions. We must #ProtectOurCare and work to expand, not restrict, access to quality health care.
I opposed Secretary Acosta's nomination, and voted against his confirmation. The last few days have only highlighted how ethically compromised and unfit to serve he is. Acosta must resign—now.
For generations, our federal government denied Black and Brown families the same kinds of homeownership subsidies available to white families. My housing plan tackles the legacy of racist redlining head-on.pic.twitter.com/5UPvYuKyZr
My mother’s minimum wage job at Sears saved our family after my daddy’s heart attack. In today’s America, it won’t keep a mama and baby out of poverty. We must raise the minimum wage to $15. Working families deserve living wages. #FightFor15
Today, Republican lawmakers in VA ignored their responsibility to protect the people of their state from another mass shooting like the one in Virginia Beach. I stand behind leaders like @SheilaForVA who know what it takes to end this crisis.
DC is flooded. It was 90 degrees in Alaska last week. Sea ice has shrunk to record lows in Antarctica. June was the hottest month ever recorded. And today Trump is "touting" his environmental record. We don't have time for more lies. We must address the climate crisis now.
Drug and insurance companies are gearing up to protect their billions in profits and stop Medicare for All. 9 of the 10 groups hiring the most lobbyists on Medicare for All oppose it. We have something more powerful than lobbyists and money: the people.
Republicans have no problem giving over $1 trillion in tax breaks to the rich and massive corporations. But when it comes to canceling student debt or tuition-free college, we "can't afford it." What hypocrisy!
It was the honor of my lifetime to serve with a man who I believe was a great president, a historic figure, and most important to me, a close friend. He selected me. I’ll take his judgment about my record, my character, and my ability to handle the job over anyone else’s.
As California Attorney General, I fought to protect the ACA in court. As Senator, I’ve fought its repeal at every turn. And to the millions of people who depend on the ACA’s protections: as President, I will stop these attacks and fight to expand your care. We won’t go back.
No closed-door fundraisers. No D.C. lobbyists. No PACs of any kind. I’m incredibly grateful for every grassroots donor who is helping grow this campaign. Will you chip in $3 or whatever you can to keep up the momentum? I may even call to say thanks!
For every dollar white men made in 2017: Black women made 61 cents Native women made 58 cents Latinas made 53 cents On day one of a Warren administration, I will take executive action to boost wages for women of color. Here is how...
I’m proud to stand with all the Pennsylvania elected officials, unions and workers who are standing up to fight the corporate greed that is destroying our health care system. It is time for Medicare for All.
Freedom comes from economic empowerment. And when women of color account for nearly half of all women-owned businesses—over $386 billion in annual revenue—that means lifting up Black women not just with our words, but with our dollars. #essencefest
Team, we're training a new generation of organizers across the country. Apply for the Team Joe Organizing Fellowship before Monday, July 8th to learn the ins-and-outs of grassroots and digital organizing in our eight-week online training program.
This afternoon in Sumter, South Carolina, I discussed why I decided to run for Senate years ago — to stand up to the abuse of power and to ensure all Americans have a fair shot at the American dream. Thank you to everyone who came out to join us!
Thank you to @NEAToday for a great discussion this afternoon on how we can work together to create #StrongPublicSchools. I can promise you that @DrBiden and I will be the best partners and fiercest advocates in the White House for America’s educators and students. #NEARA19pic.twitter.com/kKzTLlunk7
No child’s future should be determined by their gender, race, zip code, parents' income, or disability. Full stop. In a Biden administration, we’ll make historic investments in our public schools to ensure every kid in America gets a fair shot. #StrongPublicSchools
Today in 1852, Frederick Douglass delivered an Independence Day message of hope and truth. May his words remind us of our past—and call on each of us to build a country in which justice, liberty, prosperity, and independence are extended to all.
A "New Call to Service" is a bold plan to dramatically increase pathways to service for all Americans. That’s why it calls for competitive grant funding to allow America's towns, cities, and regions to create opportunities tailored to meet the challenges facing local communities.
The meritocracy will make even less sense when robots can do many jobs better than we can. We need to rethink capitalism in order to bring it into the 21st century in a way that puts human interests and wellbeing at its center.
Boston College grad students are fighting to have their labor rights acknowledged. It's time the university respects the majority of grad students who voted to be in a union. I stand with @BCGEU_UAW in their efforts to organize and unionize. #BCBargainNow
One way I’m fighting is through my plan to end for-profit detention centers, which have made millions implementing Trump’s cruel immigration policies. Today 73% of detained immigrants are held in private detention facilities. Under my plan, we’ll end this.
My #UltraMillionaireTax is a two-cent tax on the 75,000 biggest fortunes in the country. We’d use it to pay for #UniversalChildCare, student loan debt relief, free public college, and a lot more. Here’s how it works.
Our elections are less secure than your Amazon account. They're under-resourced and undermined by partisan and racist officials who try to stop people from exercising their right to vote. We need to protect our democracy—and I’ve got a plan for that:
My announcement tonight with @stephenathome @colbertlateshow - I’m giving the Freedom Dividend to another family anywhere in the US! Now to make it happen for everyone in 2020. pic.twitter.com/w6fA0D8Ht4
We should not pretend that it is remotely feasible to round up and deport more than 12 million undocumented immigrants without collapsing regional economies and separating families. We need to implement real policies and solutions.
Someone told me that folks in DC are stunned by our campaign’s success - that we are outperforming senators who have been preparing for a presidential run for years. To that I say: they haven’t seen anything yet.
Trump is attempting to use the census as a political weapon to rob immigrant communities of resources and representation. If the Supreme Court allows this Administration to suppress the count, I'll do everything in my power to reverse its impact as President. #NALEO
It’s long past time for our criminal justice system to treat children like children. We need to change our approach. Let’s end the automatic transfer of children to adult prisons and eliminate youth solitary confinement.
Either the Trump Administration is angling for another disastrous war in the Middle East, or they've spent two years saber-rattling against Iran with no strategy and no endgame. This president is making America weaker and less safe.
I’m glad to introduce the Refund Equality Act in the Senate. Our bill ensures legally-married, same-sex couples can claim the tax refunds they earned, but were denied before marriage equality was the law of the land.
A few months ago I met @Liat_RO, a public school science teacher and activist, at an organizing event in Brooklyn, NY. Liat gave me a great idea: The next Secretary of Education should be a former public school teacher. I agreed—and pledged to make it happen.
In 2017, four of the Waltons made $12.7 billion in a single day. To make that much, it would take a @Walmart worker working “full-time” earning $11 an hour over 653,000 years. The greed has got to end.
It’s long past time to bring our troops home, and Congress should always have a vigorous and very public debate before sending our troops into harm's way. I support @BLeeForCongress's amendment to repeal the current AUMF and help #EndForeverWar.
America needs to face the things we’ve done wrong and take steps towards making it right. My housing plan creates a first-of-its-kind down-payment assistance program to help Black and Brown families living in formerly redlined neighborhoods buy a home.
Our country must confront the impact that generations of slavery and racist policies still have on Black Americans. I support legislation to study and develop plans for reparations.
Donald Trump is the most dangerous president in U.S. history. He is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe and a religious bigot. He betrayed the working class to further enrich the wealthy. Our campaign is the best to defeat Trump because it is rooted in human solidarity.
Congratulations New York and to the brave undocumented people who led the fight for the Green Light bill. We must bring our undocumented neighbors out of the shadows and allow them to participate openly in American society.
Let me make a prediction. When he begins his re-election campaign tonight, Trump won't mention that he tried to throw 32 million off health care, or that he proposed massive cuts to Medicare, Medicaid & Social Security, or that he gave huge tax breaks to the top 1%. Just a guess.
Things Trump didn’t mention in his campaign kickoff: -Climate change -Tens of millions live paycheck to paycheck -$1.5 trillion student debt crisis -Our infrastructure is crumbling -Minimum wage hasn’t been raised in 10 years -40,000 people die from gun violence each year
Trump's threat to deport "millions of illegal aliens" is outrageous. He is a demagogue and a bully who who seeks political gain by frightening and intimidating minorities who have limited political power. We will not allow him to succeed.
The #FreedomDividend would be supplemented by free financial counseling for all to help people make the most of their new income. We need to teach financial literacy everywhere.pic.twitter.com/MiqBhdtBlS
#YangGang, not only are we going to the debates, we are taking one of you with us! Anyone who makes a campaign donation between now and Wednesday will be automatically entered for a chance to win. Will it be you? Donate today!
New Hampshire took just took a major step by becoming the 21st state to abolish the death penalty. It is time to end the death penalty in every state in America, as part of a wholesale reform of our entire criminal justice system.
"We have an opportunity with Senator Bernie Sanders to create a democracy that respects a person for simply being human." We will not allow Trump to continue to demonize Latinos and immigrants. We will defeat him and create a nation for all.pic.twitter.com/cgL5SdmXfc
The Trump administration is rolling back 83 rules protecting our planet: 22 on air pollution & emissions 18 on drilling & extraction 13 on infrastructure 10 on animals 5 on toxic substances 7 on water pollution 8 other ones We will put people's health over polluters' profits.
In America today, one in every six kids goes hungry. Kids should not be dealing with "lunch debt." As president, I will fight to provide year-round, free universal school meals to all our kids.pic.
Continually inspired by the moms demanding action, the young people walking out of their classrooms and marching for their lives, and all of the fierce advocates across our country who are leading the fight to end gun violence. #WearOrange
As we #wearorange today, the work to end gun violence continues. The work to keep our kids & communities safe goes on. But remembering those who have succumbed to our inaction, we’ll deliver on solutions to ensure we finally and fully address gun violence.
Really inspired by Carmen, a 16-year-old Dreamer attending Ottumwa High School. She told me she wants to join the military and eventually serve her community as a paramedic. She asked what I’ll do to fight for Dreamers and their families. My response:pic.twitter.com/pDON4oU24d
Grateful for the opportunity to spend time with Matt Russell at Coyote Run Farm. An important discussion about the dangerous impacts of Trump’s tariffs, climate change, investing in rural communities and making sure farmers can make a profit while they feed and clothe the world.
I heard about the urgent need to expand voting rights during each of our four previous trips across Iowa. So we put together a plan to do exactly that while also fixing our democracy and bringing more people into it. Today, I had the chance to share our plan in Knoxville.
The disastrous tariffs Trump has levied have an impact. So do these trade wars he’s carelessly entered us into. Farmers, manufacturers, entire communities of Americans across this country are being hurt and are paying the price.
It shouldn’t be a radical idea that everyone has the right to breathe clean air. Yet in 2019, this Administration is actively working to weaken fuel emission standards. California will fight back.
No parent should ever have to contemplate buying their child a bulletproof backpack to keep them safe at school. No child should ever have to fear a mass shooting at their school. Yet this is reality in America. Together, we can change that. #WearOrange
100 Americans are killed by guns every single day. Hundreds more are shot and injured. Since Congress hasn’t acted, I will as president. We’ve lost too many friends, family members, and neighbors to gun violence to do nothing. #WearOrange
When I was in Michigan this week, I met a lot of young people who were fired up and ready to fight for big, structural change. I’m glad to see Michigan make it easier for college students to vote!
Here’s what my Green Manufacturing Plan would do: Make a real investment in science Commit $1.5 trillion to our federal government to buy American and buy green Develop and manufacture American products here to sell all around the world
On #NationalGunViolenceAwarenessDay, I’m thinking about how our country loses an average of seven children and teens to gun violence every day. Enough is enough. I’m fighting like hell for #GunReformNow and to end the @NRA’s death grip on our federal government.
Payday lenders spent buckets of money on Trump's campaign and properties. Then Trump's @CFPB director, Kathy Kraninger, did the predatory payday lending industry a huge favor by rolling back important regulations. It's corruption, plain and simple.
Trump's former chief of staff played a huge role in the inhumane family separation policy. Now John Kelly's joining the board of a company that runs Homestead, the largest detention center for migrant kids. Rep. @PramilaJayapal and I are demanding answers.
The best balance would be term limits that are quite long - say 18 years - that would be long enough for expertise and coalitions to be built up without letting legislators become totally careerist and self-dealing.
College is too expensive, forcing many to take out student loans that will saddle them with debt throughout their lives. I would forgive much of this debt and work with schools to reduce tuition. We can do much better for our young people.
You know what I find really odd - the transitive property of points of view. That is if I talk to someone I must believe everything they believe. That seems ridiculous to me. Of course people will believe different things.
