After Hasidic Suicide, Israel Looks in the Mirror

In many ways, Israel's economic and cultural future depends on the country's ability to manage relations between the inward-looking ultra-Orthodox and the rest of society. Haredim are poorer than other Israelis, and their participation in the work force is lower. They have historically avoided compulsory military service. But understanding these people and finding common ground with them is essential for Israel. Stories like Ms. Weinstein's do not make this easier.

‘Barbarism by an educated and cultured people’ – Dawayima massacre was more than Deir Yassin

"There was no battle and no resistance (and no Egyptians). The first conquerors killed from eighty to a hundred Arabs [including] women and children. The children were killed by smashing of their skulls with sticks. Is it possible to shout about Deir Yassin and be silent about something much worse?" For the first time ever, a letter quoting one of the Israeli soldiers who were part of the Al-Dawayima massacre in October 1948 is published in full.

Are Israel’s existential threats slowly disappearing?

If there s one thing most Israelis can agree on, it is that the world is against us. At the very least, so it goes, Israel is surrounded by enemies on all fronts, and the Jewish state s existence is always in peril. This mantra was seared into the fabric of the Israeli consciousness from the founding of the state and persists until today. Perhaps that is why recent statements by top-brass Israeli officials come as such a surprise. In a recent interview with Israeli newspaper Ma ariv, outgoing Mossad head Tamir Pardo stated that while Israel still faces security challenges, it no longer faces any existential threats.

Airbnb lists properties in illegal Israeli settlements

Airbnb is listing dozens of properties located in Jewish settlements on occupied Palestinian land as being inside the state of Israel, raising questions about the technology platform's legal position in profiting from rentals on the land. "People come to us knowing that Efrat is part of the state of Israel, and are not concerned with safety and security issues," said Lily, the host of a cottage advertised on Airbnb at NIS471 (US$120) per night. Efrat is a Jewish settlement that was established in 1983 on occupied Palestinian land, 12km south of Jerusalem and 6.5 km east of the green line.

Inside GILEE, the US-Israel law enforcement training program seeking to redefine terrorism

The recent wave of heightened Islamophobia in the U.S. is not limited to the violent rhetoric and cruel policies of conservative politicians; it's also being drummed into police through a Georgia-based program that has sent thousands of American law enforcement officials to Israel for counter-terrorism training. In an unusually candid discussion about the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE), program director Robert Friedmann recently declared that, There is no Islamophobia. There is knife-o-phobia, as he presented decontextualized video clips of Arabs stabbing Israeli police officers. GILEE's rabid brand of Zionism is as transparent as its operations are secretive. In 2011, GSU students sought information to determine how the program impacts policing in the United States. Their public records request was denied and met with unexpectedly intense backlash. State Attorney General Sam Olens told a local news station (whose parent company sponsors GILEE) that the students were aiding terrorists.

Overcoming Jewish America’s Israel fantasy

For American Jews of the baby boomer generation, the widening gap between Israel, the country to which they have to a great extent outsourced their Jewish identity, and the United States, which is their home, has raised the specter of warring dual loyalties. They can t really identify with Netanyahu, given his racist comments, far-right governing coalition and overt hostility to Obama, but Israel as a place and an idea is very important to them. That is why they were likely to condemn Netanyahu s election day race baiting, which flew in the face of their liberal values, but support the 2014 Gaza war, because the army and the Israeli media said it was a war of defense.

The roots of anti-Mizrahi racism in Israel

Israel s media was abuzz Monday following the release of an overtly racist commercial targeting Mizrahi Jews. Those who may be shocked by the blatant bigotry in the Karmei Gat video must remember that racist attitudes toward Mizrahim are part and parcel of Israel s DNA. The founders of the state, Jews of Ashkenazi origin who were raised on European ideas of nationalism and socialism, viewed "Oriental Jews" as backward and primitive from the moment they began arriving en masse on Israel s shores, shortly after the founding of the state.

Palestinians in occupied territories need protection

At least 76 Palestinians and 10 Israelis have been killed in ongoing violence in the occupied East Jerusalem that began in September. The clashes began after dozens of Jewish settlers backed by Israeli security stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Palestinians oppose efforts by far-right Jewish groups who want to divide the holy site and build a Jewish temple there. Palestinians in Jerusalem s Old City say they have no one to safeguard their basic human rights. They are asking for an international force to protect them. On Oct. 24, the Jerusalemite Women s Coalition, a group of women s rights organizations and feminists, called for international protection, citing increased violence by Israeli settlers and the Israeli army. It is urging the international community to defend Palestinians living in East Jerusalem.

Is This the 3rd Palestinian Intifada?

The current uprising could advance the cause of liberation - but only if it's transformed into a nonviolent mass movement, coordinated closely with international solidarity activists. The Palestinian uprising is now entering its fourth week. There appears to be a broad consensus on the genesis of the violence, which has left at least 40 Palestinians and seven Israelis dead since October 1, and more than 1,200 Palestinians injured. If Israel were confronted with mass nonviolent marches on the Gaza fence, the West Bank Wall (ruled illegal by the International Court of Justice) and occupied East Jerusalem, coordinated with large-scale direct action abroad, united under the banner of international legitimacy and determined to end the illegal siege and occupation if all these conditions held, truly this would be Israel's nightmare and Palestinian hopes made real.

How Yitzhak Rabin’s Assassin Won

A 25-year-old Jewish extremist named Yigal Amir killed Rabin in 1995 in order to prevent the handover of West Bank land to the Palestinians, believing that it violated the word of God. It was a transformative moment. The assassination on November 4, 1995, would set off a chain reaction that would shift the power from the pragmatists to the ideologues in Israel and sink Rabin s peace process. Twenty years later, the ideologues dominate Israeli politics. It has taken a long time for the full impact of that devastating day to sink in. The Israeli settlement movement, which had viewed Rabin's Oslo Accord as an act of treachery, has more than doubled in size since his assassination and greatly expanded its political power. Its representatives in parliament would come to include Moshe Feiglin, who had been convicted of sedition for organizing rowdy protests during the Rabin era.

Shlomo Sand: ‘I wish to resign and cease considering myself a Jew’

I am aware of living in one of the most racist societies in the western world. Racism is present to some degree everywhere, but in Israel it exists deep within the spirit of the laws. It is taught in schools and colleges, spread in the media, and above all and most dreadful, in Israel the racists do not know what they are doing and, because of this, feel in no way obliged to apologise. This absence of a need for self-justification has made Israel a particularly prized reference point for many movements of the far right throughout the world, movements whose past history of antisemitism is only too well known.

From 1945 to 2015 – The Jewish Future

Dark clouds always seem to hang over the Jewish people, and today s include old problems like anti-Semitism in Europe and new ones like Iran's nuclear-weapons program. But to me the future seems bright. Fifty years from now, I believe the Jewish community will look back and understand its condition to have been seeded and shaped by the unprecedented freedoms of our generation. As William Ford Gibson wrote: "The future is already here - it's just not very evenly distributed." To live Jewishly today is a willed choice. Marrying a Jew, affiliating as a Jew, and practicing an engaged Jewish life are decisions we can make without fear of damning (or any) social consequence.

Why Israel wants a religious war over Al-Aqsa

The escalating Israeli attempts to take over the Aqsa Mosque and the rest of the Noble Sanctuary (al-Haram al-Sharif) in Jerusalem is a sign of Israeli boldness to complete the occupation of all Palestine. Zionists actively promote the idea that Jews, represented by Israel, and Christians, represented by "the West", are engaged in a global struggle against "radical Islam". A religious struggle has no ultimate solution. It is an endless war. That suits Israel just fine. A political, territorial and colonial struggle, by contrast, does have a solution: decolonisation and the restoration of the rights of the colonised people. That, of course, is the last thing Israel wants, which is why it will continue to stoke religious strife at Al-Aqsa.

Israel plans to tear down 13,000 Palestinian Buildings in Palestine

Tearing down Palestinian buildings is one way Israel constrains Palestinian life and economy, and encourages Palestinians to leave their homeland, in a kind of slow-motion ethic cleansing. In contrast, about 356,000 Israeli squatters live illegally in Area C, in about 100 squatter settlements. The 4th Geneva Convention of 1949 forbids occupying powers from transferring their citizens into occupied territories. The land on which the Israeli squatters live was stolen from Palestinian owners. While homes and buildings are routinely constructed by the Israeli squatters on these usurped tracts, Palestinians are forbidden to build, in their own homeland. This discrimination against the Palestinians has shrunk their GDP or economy by about a third from what it would be if businesses and homes could be freely constructed.

More Evidence of Israel’s Dirty Role in the Syrian Proxy War

The Times of Israel tries to spin Israel s assistance to the Syrian rebels as purely "from a humanitarian point of view", in reality however, Israel supports the Syrian opposition for its own geopolitical ends. Weakening the Syrian regime has been a geopolitical objective of the Israeli establishment for decades, with strategic papers dating back to the 1980's detailing this goal. Oded Yinon, an Israeli journalist who had close connections to the Foreign Ministry in Israel, wrote an article in 1982 which was published in a journal of the World Zionist Organisation titled: "A Strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties". In it, Yinon outlines that the "dissolution of Syria and Iraq" are "Israel's primary" objectives in the region.

All of these critical issues -- none of them decided on -- have been cast aside, ignored, covered up or denied by a country that has busied itself with the important business of recycled bottles at the prime minister's residence."

ISIS – The New Israel

ISIS, ironically, is perhaps the only example of successful nation-building in the contemporary Middle East, despite the billions of dollars we have squandered in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its quest for an ethnically pure Sunni state mirrors the quest for a Jewish state eventually carved out of Palestine in 1948. Its tactics are much like those of the Jewish guerrillas who used violence, terrorism, foreign fighters, clandestine arms shipments and foreign money, along with horrific ethnic cleansing and the massacre of hundreds of Arab civilians, to create Israel. Antagonistic ISIS and Israeli states, infected by religious fundamentalism, would be irreconcilable neighbors. This is a recipe for apocalyptic warfare. We provided the ingredients.

How Israel Treats African ‘Infiltrators’

Israel, like any sovereign country, is entitled to decide who can enter it or not. For example, it can encourage the arrival of migrant workers from country A and prevent the entry of migrant workers from country B. The government can also decide not to accept any migrant workers. But as part of the calculations regarding entry to Israel, Israel must take into account its obligations under the Refugee Convention, which Israel helped shape following the Holocaust. If Israel properly examines the refugee status claims of the asylum seekers, it can recognize those deserving of the status of refugees and bring about the departure of those who are not refugees and have come here to find work.

Israel is a society that sanctifies its dead to the point of death-worship, that wears thin the stories of the victims lives and deaths, whether it be in a synagogue attack or a Nepal avalanche. It s a society preoccupied with endless commemorations in the land of monuments, services and anniversary ceremonies; a society that demands shock and condemnation after every attack, when it blames the entire world. Precisely from such a society is one permitted to demand some attention to the Palestinian blood that is also spilled in vain; some understanding of the other side s pain, or even a measure of empathy, which in Israel is considered treason.

Today's Jews (Zionist Israelis) did not descend from the ancient Israelites. DNA science proves that the "Jews" in Israel and around the world are predominantly of Khazar stock. They are mainly a Turkish-Mongol blood mixture, says Dr. Schlomo Sand, a Jew, and distinguished history professor from Tel Aviv University in Israel. The Jews who went to Israel from Europe in 1948 and set up the new nation have no history as a people of Israel. Instead, their ancestors were converts to Judaism. So those today who say they are Jews are not of Abraham. However, the Palestinians - mostly Moslem - are of Abraham! So, who should possess the land?

The Real Reason Israel “Mows the Lawn” in Gaza

Like other states, Israel pleads "security" as justification for its aggressive and violent actions. But knowledgeable Israelis know better. It is a historical account with names of actors of how Israel time and again has broken the peace to advance its objectives of zionism: "For a century, the Zionist colonization of Palestine has proceeded primarily on the pragmatic principle of the quiet establishment of facts on the ground, which the world was to ultimately come to accept. It has been a highly successful policy. There is every reason to expect it to persist as long as the United States provides the necessary military, economic, diplomatic, and ideological support. For those concerned with the rights of the brutalized Palestinians, there can be no higher priority than working to change U.S. policies, not an idle dream by any means."

The conflict was fought between the two major components of the Jordanian population, the Palestinians represented by the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) under the leadership of Yasser Arafat and the native Jordanians represented by the Jordanian Armed Forces under the leadership of King Hussein.[

Henry Siegman, Leading Voice of U.S. Jewry, on Gaza: “A Slaughter of Innocents”

"When one thinks that this is what is necessary for Israel to survive, that the Zionist dream is based on the repeated slaughter of innocents on a scale that we re watching these days on television, that is really a profound, profound crisis - and should be a profound crisis in the thinking of all of us who were committed to the establishment of the state and to its success,"

letter to the New York Times from Jewish intellectualls including Albert Einstein, Hannah Arendt

The discrepancies between the bold claims now being made by Begin and his party, and their record of past performance in Palestine bear the imprint of no ordinary political party. This is the unmistakable stamp of a Fascist party for whom terrorism (against Jews, Arabs, and British alike), and misrepresentation are means, and a "Leader State" is the goal.

Farhud

Farhud (Arabic: ????????) refers to the pogrom or "violent dispossession" carried out against the Jewish population of Baghdad, Iraq, on June 1 2, 1941, immediately following the British victory in the Anglo-Iraqi War. The riots occurred in a power vacuum following the collapse of the pro-Nazi government of Rashid Ali while the city was in a state of instability. Around 175 Jews were killed and 1,000 injured, and up to 300-400 non-Jewish rioters were killed in the attempt to quell the violence. Looting of Jewish property took place and 900 Jewish homes were destroyed.[1] The violence came immediately after the rapid defeat by the British of Rashid Ali, whose earlier coup had generated a short period of national euphoria, and was charged by allegations that Iraqi Jews had aided the British

Netanyahu finally speaks his mind

At his Friday press conference, the prime minister ruled out full Palestinian sovereignty, derided the US approach to Israeli security, and set out his Middle East overview with unprecedented candor. His remarks were not widely reported; they should be. Not relinquishing security control west of the Jordan, it should be emphasized, means not giving a Palestinian entity full sovereignty there. It means not acceding to Mahmoud Abbas's demands, to Barack Obama's demands, to the international community's demands. This is not merely demanding a demilitarized Palestine; it is insisting upon ongoing Israeli security oversight inside and at the borders of the West Bank. That sentence, quite simply, spells the end to the notion of Netanyahu consenting to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He spent most of his service in Hebron and throughout the West Bank. His collected testimonies appear in the booklet "Operation Cast Lead" and their most recent release "Our Harsh Logic". Since leaving Breaking the Silence, his investigative reports appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian. In the refugee camps of Lebanon, the shadow of the Sabra and Shatila massacre darkens every day. Here, people regard Sharon as the man who authorised a genocide. Our offering this week is the definitive documentary on Sabra and Shatila. It centres on four survivors who spearheaded the campaign to bring Sharon to trial. JFK told Israel: ‘If you want U.S. aid, shut down your nuclear bomb factory’

Kennedy demanded that Israel not develop nuclear weapons. The clash began in 1960, when the outgoing Eisenhower administration sought an explanation for the mysterious construction near Dimona. It was told that this top-secret activity in the middle of the desert was a harmless textile plant, and no, it could not come and visit. Classified spy photos were then published on the front page of The New York Times

Ashkenazi Jews Are Genetically European

The origin of the Ashkenazi Jews, who come most recently from Europe, has largely been shrouded in mystery. But a new study suggests that at least their maternal lineage may derive largely from Europe. The finding should thoroughly debunk one of the most questionable, but still tenacious, hypotheses: that most Ashkenazi Jews can trace their roots to the mysterious Khazar Kingdom that flourished during the ninth century in the region between the Byzantine Empire and the Persian Empire, Richards and Ostrer said.

The sexual decadence of Weimar Germany

"The decay of moral values in all areas of life - the period of deepest German degradation - coincided exactly with the height of Jewish power in Germany." In 1931, over 60 percent of German films were produced by Jews and 82 percent of the film scripts were written by Jewish writers, though Jews made up less than 1 percent of the German population (0.9o%). A quick look at the names of directors, producers, stage managers, actors, script writers and critics, "revealed everywhere an overwhelming preponderance of Jews."

An honest Israeli Jew tells the Real Truth about Israel

Miko Peled was born in Jersusalem into a famous and influential Israeli Zionist family. His father was a famous General in the Israeli Army, of which Miko also served his time. When Miko's niece was killed by Palestinian suicide bombers, you may have expected the family to put Palestinians at fault, but surprisingly they blamed the state of Israel, and their violent torturing and persecution for driving people to such sadness that they would take their own lives. Through his father's deep knowledge of the Israeli war of terror, together with his own research, Miko Peled ruins the myths surrounding the Israel and Palestine situation, and delivers a truth so damning that many Jews and Israel supporters will not be able to bear it. He reveals facts such as the original expelled Jews are not the ones returning, and they are not their descendants either, covers the double standards regarding the right of return, which doesn't apply to Palestinians, and dispels the myth that there has been a conflict for ages by producing proof that it was peaceful up until 1947 when Israel launched their illegal attacks.

Israel’s sacred Terrorism

his document is the translation of the private diaries of Israel's second Prime Minster, Moshe Sharett. He had recorded the details of his official meetings in his private diary and it was eventually translated from Hebrew to English by Livia Rokach. The Zionist regime did their best to stop the publication of these diaries. Uri Avnery was concerned at that time of the perils to the Zionist state if it brought international attention to the diaries by taking the matter to court to stop its publication. He said: 'this would be a mistake of the highest order'. They stopped the litigation and it was indeed translated. It is a very frightening document! What the Zionists had in mind for the Arab people was demented, to say the least. This article is best read printed . All documents on my blog are easy to print, just hit print and you will get nice-looking printed pages.

The Mandate for Palestine

Ever ask yourself why during the 30 year period - between 1917 to 1947 -  thousands of Jews throughout the world woke up one morning and decided to leave their homes and go to Palestine? The majority did this because  they heard that a future national home for the Jewish people was being established in Palestine, on the basis of the League of Nations obligation under the “Mandate for Palestine” document. The “Mandate for  Palestine,” an historical League of Nations document, laid down the Jewish legal right to settle anywhere in western Palestine, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an entitlement unaltered in international law.
