Imprisoned Journalist Awaits Surgery After Nine Months
Mehdi Mahmoudian, an imprisoned journalist and member of the Participation Front political party, was transferred from Rajaee Shahr Prison to a hospital in May 2011 and will undergo surgery Thursday morning. In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, a source close to the prisoner who asked for anonymity for security reasons said, "Mehdi suffers from serious blood pressure fluctuations and keeps having seizures. Only since yesterday have the doctors been able to stabilize his blood pressure. He will undergo surgery on Thursday. Finally, a whole year after his illness and his requests for treatment, the Tehran Prosecutor gave him permission to leave prison."

Secret, Unannounced, Group Executions Continue Inside Iranian Prisons
While Iranian authorities remain silent about the executions of drug traffickers inside Mashad s Vakilabad Prison, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has learned that seven prisoners were hanged on 11 August, and another seven were hanged on 20 September. According to information received from a source, the executions were carried out in groups. All those executed had been charged with drug-related crimes

Shargh Newspaper reported this morning (14 September 2011) that the release of American prisoners Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer is a result of mediation by the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. During a television interview on Tuesday, 13 September, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told NBC that the two Americans were released unilaterally and on humanitarian grounds. Last September, another American prisoner, Sarah Shourd, was released after the King of Oman mediated and her $500,000 bail was posted by an anonymous individual.
Student Activist in Solitary Confinement on Hunger Strike
To protest his conditions inside Babol s Matikola Prison, imprisoned student activist Ashkan Zahabian embarked on a hunger strike on 31 August. Zahabian s father, Hassan Zahabian, told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that prison staff moved his son to solitary confinement after he began his hunger strike, even though, according to other prisoners, he was in a coma.

Ali Tabarzadi, son of prisoner of conscience Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, told the International Campaign for Human Rights In Iran that his father s health has deteriorated in prison, and that in the last few months he has experienced serious cardiac complications.
