Academic Freedom: Not if You’re a Conservative – or a Koch

Florida State University (FSU) President Barron recently sent a letter to the Faculty Senate Committee asking the body to review the Koch Foundation agreement with the university and its implementation. The final report, which was released last week, went beyond the scope of Barron s request and examined other donors agreements and decisions made by the economics department at FSU. The results of that analysis have been repeatedly confused with the details of the memorandum of understanding with the Koch Foundation as proven by an article published by Inside Higher Ed. This post serves to clarify some of the mistakes being reported by various outlets.

ObamaCare Has No Place in a Limited Government

A century ago, the idea that the Constitution imposes limits on the federal government s authority and that judges have a duty to enforce those limits would have been seen as a truism, regardless of one s political affiliation.

Education Reformers Fight Back Against National Curriculum

The U.S. Department of Education has been gobbling up more turf over the last several years, issuing mandates and pushing a one-size-fits-all set of standards. Wisconsin Judicial Tyranny

Why did the state of Wisconsin bother to have an election last November? To look at the results, you would think the voters had spoken clearly. Politico, for instance, had an extensive story about how legitimate conservatives are coming to realize that they ll have to conduct a Buckley-style purge of the extremists if they expect the tea party groups to be taken seriously. Joe Biden: Impeach a President Who Takes Us to War Against a Nation That Didn’t Attack Us

As you ll see below in a Hardball interview back when the famous leg thrill was just a glimmer in the inseam of Chris Matthews slacks, in 2007, Joe Biden argued that the president had no constitutional authority to launch an attack without congressional approval against a nation that hadn t attacked or threatened imminent attack on the United States. Biden also insisted that doing so is an impeachable offense.

Tea Party U.S.A. – The movement grows

Seattle on Monday. Denver on Tuesday. Mesa AZ on Wednesday. Overland Park, Kansas today. What a week, huh? We got the anti-stimulus, anti-entitlement protest ball rolling and now the movement, spurred further by CNBC host Rick Santelli s call for a Chicago Tea Party, is really taking off.

Debt, Health Care, and Recession

When Standard & Poor s downgraded its credit outlook for the United States, former senator Phil Gramm (R., Tex.) was not surprised. Now an investment banker, Gramm regularly visits the central banks of China, South Korea, and Japan the three largest holders of dollar-denominated assets in the world and hears their complaints about their increasingly worrisome debtor.

Don’t raise the debt ceiling

Senator Pat Toomey has an important op-ed today at Real Clear Politics (see the NRO web briefing), pointing out that refusing to raise the already gargantuan debt ceiling would not cause a catastrophic U.S. default. Such a default could only be caused by the reckless Obama administration s fear-mongering treasury secretary. Sen. Toomey writes:

NPR Makes Light of Death Threat Against Business Bearing Koch Brothers Name

NPR's Renee Montagne apparently didn't take an alleged death threat seriously, as she practically chuckled during a report on Friday's Morning Edition about anti-Koch brothers protesters mistakenly calling a Des Moines, Iowa business named Koch Brothers office supplies.

The unraveling of Barry Soetoro, a k a Barack Hussein Obama II

To those who are now speaking out about the Obama eligibility matter, I can think of no better statement than the one uttered by a very frustrated Officer John McClane, played by Bruce Willis in the movie Die Hard. In order to get the attention of a police officer oblivious to the carnage taking place inside of the Nakatomi Plaza building after making a very cursory inspection and finding nothing amiss, McClane tosses the body of a terrorist from an office window window onto the windshield of the police cruiser and fires at the police car, yelling welcome to the party, pal.

The Unhinging of the Left and the Prescience of Palin

On Monday, Politico published a piece that Legal Insurrection characterized as their "cheapest shot yet". With Politico's credibility bar already set so low that only an ant could limbo underneath, this is quite an accomplishment.

Obama Behind Wisconsin Hysteria

Politico has broken the news this morning that Obama's campaign arm "Organizing for America" is responsible for most of the chaos, and has been filling bus after bus with protestors and shuttled them to the State Capitol. This was not a spontaneous uprising - this was an organized effort by Barack Obama to further his radical, leftist agenda.

Obama: Failure To Raise The Debt Ceiling So I Can Spend Even More Money On Advancing The Progressive And Ghetto Communist Agendas Will Cause The Sky To Fall, Ending The World at Pat Dollard

It’s Over for Barack Obama

It must really suck to be a Progressive right now. Obama has collapsed on the Bush tax cuts, the debt ceiling, expanded the war in Afghanistan, said 'never mind' to his promise to close Gitmo, went to war against Libya without congressional authorization or UN resolution, and retracted several key environmental regulations while signaling that he will approve the Keystone pipeline. Progressives are starting to notice.

Charles Koch Responds to Warren Buffett

In response to Warren Buffett s op-ed urging higher taxes on the rich, fellow rich person Charles Koch makes a simple but vital point: "Much of what the government spends money on does more harm than good; this is particularly true over the past several years with the massive uncontrolled increase in government spending. I believe my business and non-profit investments are much more beneficial to societal well-being than sending more money to Washington."

The Republicans failure to win clearly the messaging battle over federal spending and debt is frustrating, but the latest poll data - significant because they come from likely voters - indicate that the GOP is coming out on top so far, albeit not by a wide margin.

I don't think of the long-term budget fight as being between Democrats and Republicans or between rich and poor. I look at it as a fight between people with funded retirements and unfunded retirements.

Barack Obama is not a serious man, and the speech he gave today did not outline a serious proposal to deal with the country's debt crisis. In the first place, as ranking Senate Budget Committee member Jeff Sessions has emphasized, a speech by itself is meaningless.

Should Congressmen Fear the Tea Party?

Harry Reid apparently thinks he has a winning smear when he says that the Tea Party is driving Congressional Republicans. In his circle, association with the Tea Party is a bad thing. But is that true of Americans as a whole? This Rasmussen survey, published yesterday, suggests that association with the Tea Party movement is generally considered a good thing. 48 percent of likely voters say their own views are closer to those of the average Tea Party member than to the average member of Congress. Only 20 percent say their views are closer to those of the average Congressman, while 30 percent are unsure.
